Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Releases Forest Department’s Activity Calendar
Shimla, 23 June: Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today unveiled the Forest Department’s official activity calendar, highlighting key initiatives launched on the occasion of World Environment Day (5 June). The calendar showcases a range of programmes aimed at promoting environmental conservation, particularly in educational institutions across the state.
As part of its awareness campaign, the department organized events in 1,000 educational institutions under themes such as “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (A Tree in Mother’s Name) and “Beat the Plastic.” More than 50,000 students actively participated in these activities. In addition, cleanliness drives were conducted in various campuses and departmental offices, involving students, forest volunteers, and community members.
The Chief Minister commended the Forest Department for its successful implementation of these initiatives and expressed confidence that the department would continue to make meaningful contributions toward a cleaner and more sustainable environment. He also directed officials to enhance public awareness about the department’s welfare schemes and to ensure greater community participation in their effective implementation.
Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Sameer Rastogi and other senior officials were also present at the event.
