Shimla, June 22:
A serious case of negligence has come to light in the Chopal police station area of Shimla district, where a worker suffered an electric shock while working on a power line without any safety equipment. The police have registered a case against the contractor involved and have initiated an investigation.

Nazir Ahmed, a resident of Dhachi village, told the police that on June 21, contractor Rajesh called his younger brother and asked him to bring along a team of workers to replace power lines near Jhiknipul. Following the request, Nazir, along with Rehmat Ali, Alijan, and Mehbub, arrived at the work site.

Initially, the group removed wires from electric poles in Jhalas village. Later, the contractor instructed them to cross a stream to remove additional wiring, assuring them that the power supply had been switched off. According to the complaint, the contractor provided only a rope for safety, with no other protective equipment.

Around noon, when the team reached a pole in Sunth village, Mehbub climbed up to remove the wires. During the process, he came into contact with a live wire and fell to the ground after receiving a strong electric shock. With the help of local residents, Mehbub was rushed to the CHC in Nerwa for initial treatment and was later referred to IGMC Shimla in critical condition.

Following the incident, Chopal Police Station registered a case under Sections 125 and 125(A) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the investigation is currently underway.
