Shimla, June 17 – It was a moment of immense pride for Himachal Pradesh Police as Inspector Vijay Kumar, in-charge of the state’s acclaimed police orchestra Harmony of the Pines, was honoured with the prestigious Global Prestige Award at a grand ceremony held at the House of Lords in London, United Kingdom. The international recognition not only brought honour to the land of the gods—Devbhoomi Himachal—but also shone a spotlight on the Indian police force on a global platform.

The award was presented by International Secretary D.K. Tyagi in the presence of Lord Rami Ranger (FRSA, Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Affairs). The occasion marked a significant moment in showcasing India’s rich cultural heritage and the disciplined image of its police forces at an international forum.

Following the award, Inspector Vijay Kumar expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Director General of Police Ashok Tiwari, and senior officers and personnel of the Himachal Pradesh Police. “This award is not just mine—it belongs to the entire Himachal Police force. It is the result of our unity, cooperation, and mutual trust,” he said.

Who is Inspector Vijay Kumar?

Inspector Vijay Kumar is a multi-talented officer of the Himachal Pradesh Police who has given a unique identity to the force through music. Hailing from Rajgarh in Sirmaur district, Vijay Kumar began his service as a constable in 1999 and now leads Harmony of the Pines, the official band of the Himachal Police.

A graduate in Indian classical music (Visharad), Vijay Kumar has worked tirelessly to build the band’s reputation. In 2016, Harmony of the Pines received official recognition and has since become a cultural ambassador for the state. Under his leadership, the band gained nationwide acclaim after participating in Colors TV’s reality show Hunarbaaz: Desh Ki Shaan in 2022.

His team has also performed at renowned events like the International Film Festival of India. In recognition of his exceptional contributions, Vijay Kumar has been awarded the DGP Disc Award three times, the Sirmaur Youth Icon Award, and was named a State Icon for the SVEEP campaign. He was recently promoted from Sub-Inspector to Inspector, a testament to his dedication and hard work.

He credits former DGP Sanjay Kundu as a key mentor in his journey. Today, Inspector Vijay Kumar stands as a cultural face of the Himachal Police and an inspiration for countless youth across the state.
