Dharamshala, June 13:
In a major boost to irrigation infrastructure in Himachal Pradesh, the long-awaited Finna Singh Irrigation Project in Kangra district has received a central grant of ₹55.51 crore. The funding has been sanctioned and released under the Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programme (AIBP), a component of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY).

This key development is being credited to the persistent efforts of Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, who has been consistently engaging with Union Ministers and concerned departments to push for the project. Since the formation of the current government, Agnihotri had placed the Finna Singh project high on his priority list and advocated for it strongly at the central level.

The project had been languishing for over a decade, leaving thousands of farmers in the region disheartened. With this renewed momentum, hopes have been revived. Once completed, the project is expected to bring irrigation benefits to thousands of hectares of farmland in Kangra, significantly enhancing agricultural productivity and strengthening the economic condition of farmers.

Deputy CM Agnihotri stated, “This approval marks a crucial step towards securing a better future for our farmers. The state government is committed to expanding irrigation access and empowering the agricultural sector.” He also assured that the government would ensure timely and accelerated implementation of the project. The release of central assistance has infused new life into the initiative and sparked fresh optimism among the farming community.
