Mandi: CM Sukhu Intends to Hand Over Himachal’s Power Projects to Telangana Favourites, Alleges Jairam Thakur

Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur has alleged that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu is planning to hand over Himachal Pradesh’s power projects to close associates of the Congress party from Telangana. He said the move raises several serious questions that the Chief Minister must answer.
Speaking to the media in Mandi, Thakur claimed that the current state government has completely devastated Himachal’s power sector. Despite the state’s potential of generating up to 27,000 MW through hydropower, he accused the government of deliberately neglecting the sector. “Not a single new project has been initiated during their tenure,” Thakur said.
He further alleged that the few projects the government is now planning to start have already been earmarked for individuals from Telangana. “Rather than facilitating the development of already allocated projects, the government is creating unnecessary hurdles. New policies and stringent conditions have disrupted the entire process,” he added.
Thakur asserted that due to the government’s approach, investor interest in the hydropower sector has dwindled significantly. “No one is willing to invest anymore—they’re simply folding hands and walking away,” he said. Concluding his remarks, Thakur stated, “If Himachal Pradesh is lagging behind in development today, a major reason is the misgovernance of the Congress-led state government and its leadership.”
