Shimla, June 12:
In a dramatic turn of events, one of the two accused in a drug peddling case managed to escape from police custody near the Jubbal police station on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred shortly after both individuals were brought back from a court hearing.

According to reports, the accused—Manish, son of Ashok Kumar of Jubbal, and Vikrant—had been taken to court earlier in the day and were being escorted back to the Jubbal police station. As they neared the station, Manish requested to use the restroom. Taking advantage of the moment, he gave the police the slip, scaled the wall behind the toilet, and fled into nearby bushes.

Vikrant attempted to follow suit, also jumping over the wall. However, police personnel raised the alarm and managed to apprehend him shortly after. Manish, on the other hand, successfully evaded capture and remains at large.

Search teams have since been dispatched to various possible hideouts in an effort to locate the absconding accused.

It is worth noting that both individuals had been arrested just a day earlier with a quantity of heroin (“chitta”) in their possession. They were booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Following the escape, an additional FIR has now been filed against them under Sections 262 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
