Solan, June 9:
A devastating road accident on the Baddi-Nalagarh National Highway-105 claimed the life of a 38-year-old woman, bringing tragedy to a family from Punjab. The incident occurred near Bhud in the industrial hub of Baddi, where a speeding tractor collided with a motorcycle, killing Pushpa Devi on the spot.

Pushpa Devi, a resident of Manasli Ganauli village in Ropar district, was traveling with her husband on a motorcycle to visit an ailing relative when the accident happened. A tractor, approaching from the opposite direction at high speed, struck their vehicle with such force that the motorcycle was completely wrecked. The rear wheel of the tractor’s trolley ran over Pushpa Devi, leading to her immediate death at the scene. The tractor driver fled before authorities could arrive.

The police responded promptly, taking custody of the body and sending it for post-mortem at the Civil Hospital in Nalagarh. The body was later handed over to the family. Pushpa Devi is survived by her husband and two young children.

Grieving family members told the media that Pushpa had simply set out to check on a sick relative and never returned. They appealed to the government and district administration to urgently repair the deteriorating Baddi-Nalagarh highway and enforce stricter action against unlicensed and underage drivers.

Local residents echoed their concerns, highlighting that despite the area’s prominence on Himachal’s industrial map, its roads remain in a perilous state. According to sources, two to three road accidents are reported daily in the region, many of them fatal. Just a day earlier, three separate accidents had occurred, leaving two people dead and another woman critically injured and battling for life at Chandigarh’s PGI hospital.

Police have registered a case against the absconding tractor driver under multiple sections and have launched a manhunt. Officials assured that the accused will be arrested soon and dealt with according to the law.
