Environmental Champions Honoured in Himachal; RKMV Shimla Bags First Prize — CM Sukhu Commends Efforts

Shimla, June 5:
On the occasion of World Environment Day, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu presented Environment Excellence Awards to eight individuals and institutions for their outstanding contributions to environmental conservation. The award ceremony was held at the historic Hotel Peterhof in Shimla.

First and second prize winners were awarded ₹50,000 each, while third prize recipients received ₹25,000 in cash.

In the educational institutions category, Government Girls College (RKMV), Shimla secured the first prize. Other top awardees included Nature Park Bakhli Devidar, the JICA-supported Nachan project, M/s Pidilite Industries Ltd. Baddi, the Centre for Science Learning and Creativity under HIMCOSTE, and the Block Development Office, Chopal.

Second prize winners included Himalayan Research Group, Shimla; PM Shri Government Model Senior Secondary School Chauntra, Mandi; and M/s Luminous Power Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Amb, Una district.

Several competitions were also held during the event, with prizes distributed to the winners.

In the junior painting category, Dhruv from Government Senior Secondary School, Kanger (Una) won first place; Aarohi from Government Middle School, Sultanpur (Chamba) came second; and Nami from HAPS, Heera Nagar (Hamirpur) secured third place.
In the senior category, Roshni from Government High School, Navbahar (Shimla) won first place; Mehak Preet from St. Luke’s Senior Secondary School (Solan) came second; and Ayush Negi from Government Senior Secondary School Pangi (Kinnaur) took third.

In the junior slogan writing competition, Harshita from Government High School, Kanah (Solan) bagged first place; Sunakshi from Government High School, Bheetlu (Kangra) came second; and Divya Jyoti from Government Senior Secondary School, Barang (Kinnaur) took third.
In the senior category, Diksha from Government Senior Secondary School, Luddu (Chamba) won first place; Palak from Government Senior Secondary School, Chauri (Hamirpur) came second; and Parul from Government Senior Secondary School, Khalyani (Kullu) placed third.

For Best Eco-Club Report, Government Senior Secondary School, Balkarupi (Kangra) won first place, followed by Shivalik Valley Public School (Solan) in second, and Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Ghumarwin (Bilaspur) in third.

In the photography competition, Abhinav from Jindal Vidya Mandir, Sholtu (Kinnaur) won first prize; Vikas from Government Senior Secondary School, Saur (Solan) came second; Ikshita from Government Senior Secondary School, Bhutti (Shimla) placed third; and Sakshi from Government Senior Secondary School, Tharas (Kullu) secured fourth.

In the debate competition, Ishita from Government Senior Secondary School, Kotla (Solan) stood first; Komal Mehta from Government Senior Secondary School, Ghanahatti (Shimla) came second; Aradhana Thakur from Nurpur Public School (Kangra) placed third; and Anshika Sharma from TR DAV School, Kangu (Hamirpur) finished fourth.

Several awards were also distributed under the Green School Programme run by the Centre for Science & Environment.
Solan district was named Best Green District. Other awards included:

  • Land Steward Award: Government High School, Kanah (Solan)

  • Change Maker School: Government Senior Secondary School, Baldiyan (Shimla)

  • Energy Manager Award: Doon Valley Public School (Solan)

  • Waste Warrior Award: Government Senior Secondary School, Bhaleth (Hamirpur)

  • Best Newcomer School: Government Senior Secondary School, Sarog (Shimla)

  • Water Conservation Award: Shivalik Valley Public School (Solan)

These awards recognized and celebrated exemplary efforts in environmental protection and awareness across the state.

During the event, the Chief Minister also launched the ‘Plastic Challenging’ mobile app, aimed at digitizing environmental law enforcement. Through this app, officials from 13 departments will be able to issue challans directly from their mobile devices, eliminating the need for paper-based processes and promoting eco-friendly governance.

The Chief Minister applauded students, educators, and institutions for raising awareness and contributing actively to environmental protection in their daily lives.
