CM Sukhu Flags Off Cycle Run on World Environment Day
Shimla, June 5:
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu flagged off a special cycle run from Oak Over, Shimla, on the occasion of World Environment Day. The event, themed “Eliminating Plastic Pollution,” was jointly organized by the Department of Environment, Science & Technology and Climate Change, and the Himachal Pradesh Council for Science, Technology & Environment (HIMCOSTE).
During the event, the Chief Minister also launched the Plastic Neutral Himachal 2030 awareness campaign and the Clean Shimla Campaign. The cycle run saw enthusiastic participation from students, volunteers, Home Guards, and people from various walks of life.
On the occasion, CM Sukhu administered a pledge to make Himachal Pradesh plastic neutral and extended his greetings for World Environment Day. He emphasized the need for collective responsibility in making the state free of plastic. “Protecting the environment from plastic pollution is a duty we all share,” he stated.
He further said that the state must make sustained and serious efforts over the next five years to achieve the goal of a plastic-free Himachal. Raising public awareness, he added, is as important as policy implementation. “Preserving nature is an integral part of our culture. Himachal is renowned for its natural beauty, and we must continue to safeguard it with a positive and proactive approach,” he said.
Prominent attendees included MLA Harish Janartha, Shimla Mayor Surender Chauhan, Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap, Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh, Director of Environment, Science & Technology and Climate Change D.C. Rana, Municipal Commissioner Bhupender Attri, Additional Director Praveen Gupta, Chief Scientist Dr. Suresh Attri, along with other dignitaries.
