Chopal’s BDO Vinit Thakur Honoured with State Environment Leadership Award by CM Sukhu
Shimla, June 5:
It was a proud moment for Chopal Development Block as Block Development Officer (BDO) Vinit Thakur was conferred with the Himachal Pradesh State Environment Leadership Award. The award recognizes his exceptional efforts in the field of environmental conservation and protection in the state.
The award ceremony took place at the historic Hotel Peterhof in Shimla on June 5, coinciding with World Environment Day. Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu presented Vinit Thakur with a citation and a cash prize of ₹50,000 in recognition of his outstanding work.
This marks the first time in the history of Chopal administration that an officer has received such a prestigious state-level honor, sparking celebrations across the development block. Thakur was recognized for his environmental awareness, innovative initiatives, and effective on-ground implementation of eco-friendly practices. His efforts have brought recognition not just to himself but also to the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department and have put Chopal on the map for progressive environmental action.
Following the award, Vinit Thakur expressed that the recognition was not an individual achievement but the result of collective efforts. He credited the entire office staff, field teams, panchayat representatives, senior officers, the women-led NRLM groups, and the environmentally conscious people of Chopal for their unwavering support.
He emphasized that environmental conservation is not just the responsibility of one department but a shared duty of the entire society. This recognition, he said, should serve as an inspiration not only for Chopal but for communities across the state to take further positive steps toward sustainable development.
