Mandi, May 26:
Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Jairam Thakur has termed Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s remarks on a recent High Court order as unfortunate. Speaking to reporters in Mandi, Thakur expressed hope that the High Court would take cognizance of the CM’s statement. He also urged the Chief Minister to issue an apology to the court.

Thakur said the state government had failed to conduct a proper investigation into the death of Vimal Negi and was, in fact, trying to influence it. “Some officials within the government are complicit,” he claimed. He explained that when these facts were presented before the High Court, the court issued directions that no Himachal Pradesh officer would be involved in the CBI probe to ensure impartiality.

“The Chief Minister’s public questioning of this order is shocking and raises serious concerns,” said Thakur. “It reflects how unsettled he is now that the investigation has been handed over to the CBI.”

He also expressed disbelief over CM Sukhu’s statement that the government would have voluntarily handed over the case to the CBI had Vimal Negi’s family requested it. “The family has been demanding a CBI inquiry from day one,” Thakur stated. “As the Opposition, the BJP fully supported this demand. We are not politicizing the issue — the BJP has many other matters to raise in the political arena.”

“We are standing with Vimal Negi’s family to ensure justice is served. Now that the High Court has entrusted the investigation to the CBI, it is clear the Chief Minister is deeply uncomfortable and, in his frustration, is resorting to irresponsible remarks,” he added.
