Shimla, May 25:
In a heartfelt tribute to the brave soldiers of Operation Sindoor and in memory of those who laid down their lives, Umang Foundation organized a blood donation camp at Shimla’s historic Ridge. A total of 76 individuals donated blood during the event, while hundreds paid floral tribute at the symbolic portrait of the martyrs.
The camp was inaugurated by retired Indian Army Major General Atul Kaushik and his wife, Simmy Kaushik, who both led by example and donated blood themselves. Professor Ajay Srivastava, President of Umang Foundation, and camp coordinator Rohit Duggalet shared that the initiative was meant to both honor the armed forces and promote awareness about blood donation.
Major General Kaushik lauded the Foundation’s efforts, emphasizing the importance of nurturing respect for the armed forces and a spirit of patriotism among the youth. He also encouraged broader awareness and participation in blood donation.
A large number of young men and women participated in the drive, along with several tourists who joined in spontaneously. Notable donors included Abhishek Bhagra, Kartikeya Lakhanpal, Dr. Rita Kumari, Arjun Singh, Uday Kumar, Vishal Thakur, and Ayush Rajput.
The smooth execution of the camp was made possible through the efforts of volunteers including Vijay Singh, Shivani Atri, Neha Thakur, Paramjeet, Amit Atri, Ritu Thakur, and Anjali. From Seva Bharati, Nisha Bhandari, Diksha, and Pinky contributed, while members of Atulniya Shiv Shagun Welfare Society—Ayush Rajput, Himank, Lavish, Rudransh, and Lakshya—also assisted. Blood collection was handled by the IGMC Blood Bank team under the leadership of Dr. Saavi Dhotta.
