Kangra Police Strike Hard on Drug Trade, Attach Assets Worth ₹2.65 Crore

In a significant crackdown on the drug trade, Kangra Police have attached illegal assets worth ₹2,65,66,683. The seized property includes residential buildings, valuable jewellery, cash, and four vehicles—all linked to individuals involved in narcotics trafficking.

According to police sources, on April 6, a team from Dharamshala Police Station arrested Sanjay Kumar alias Chhappan, son of Gurdev Kapoor, and Suman Kumari alias Varsha, daughter of Pratap Chand, both residents of Rakkar village, Dharamshala. The duo was caught with 1.246 kilograms of charas (cannabis resin), and a case was registered against them under the NDPS Act.

During the investigation, authorities found that Sanjay Kumar had constructed three residential properties valued at ₹1,55,03,700 using illegally acquired funds. Additionally, in the name of his family members, police identified a Mahindra Scorpio, a Maruti Swift, a Royal Enfield motorcycle, and an Activa scooter, collectively valued at ₹4,49,916. The total worth of his movable and immovable assets stands at ₹1,59,53,616, which is now set to be seized following due legal procedure.

In another case dated November 6, 2024, a team from Kangra Police Station arrested Pawan Kumar, son of Surendra Kumar, and his wife Neena, residents of Arla Dehra, Kangra. They were found in possession of 26.10 grams of chitta (heroin), 241 grams of gold, 1,207 grams of silver jewellery, and ₹44,580 in cash. A case (No. 180/24) was registered against them under the NDPS Act.

The investigation revealed that Pawan Kumar owns multiple properties in Arla, Sakot, and Tarsuha villages, valued at ₹81,45,267. His movable assets were assessed at ₹24,67,800, bringing his total wealth to ₹1,06,13,067, which will also be attached following legal formalities.

Notably, Kangra Police had earlier seized assets worth ₹51 lakh belonging to another drug trafficker. These actions underline the department’s firm resolve and consistent efforts in tackling the drug menace in the region.
