Subedar Major Pawan Kumar Jaryal, a proud son of Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district, was laid to rest with full state honours on Sunday at his native village, Siholpuri, in the Shahpur subdivision. The brave soldier laid down his life while defending the nation at the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch sector.
As his mortal remains reached the village, the air reverberated with cries of “Bharat Mata ki Jai,” “Shaheed Pawan Amar Rahe,” and “Pakistan Murdabad.” Emotions ran high as hundreds of mourners lined the route to pay their final respects, many with tears in their eyes and pride in their hearts.
At the family home, grief overwhelmed his loved ones. His mother and wife collapsed in sorrow, while his son and daughter were inconsolable. At the cremation ground, his son, Abhishek Kumar, performed the final rites, lighting the pyre in a moment of heartbreaking dignity. Pawan Kumar was just two months away from retirement, but fate had other plans—he made the ultimate sacrifice while serving his nation to the very end.
Killed in Pakistani Firing at the LoC
The 48-year-old soldier was serving in the 25 Punjab Regiment and was martyred around 7:30 a.m. on Saturday in Pakistani cross-border firing in the Poonch sector. News of his death sent a wave of grief through the village and surrounding areas.
Condolences from the Chief Minister and Officials
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed his condolences and personally spoke to the martyr’s father, retired Havaldar Garja Singh, offering words of support. “The state government stands firmly with the family in this hour of grief and will extend all possible assistance,” he said.
Shahpur MLA and Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania, SDM Kartar Chand, Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa, and other senior officials from the administration and police visited the martyr’s home to pay their respects and console the grieving family.
A Life of Duty and Honor
Pawan Kumar was not only a courageous soldier but also a devoted son, husband, and father. He is survived by his elderly father, wife Sushma Devi, son Abhishek, who is preparing for competitive exams, and daughter Anamika, a college student. His death has cast a pall of sadness over the entire region, but it is accompanied by a deep sense of pride in his bravery and selfless service to the nation.
His legacy will live on as a symbol of sacrifice and patriotism, inspiring generations to come.
