Shimla, May 6: In a case that has drawn attention across the state, the wife of a senior IPS officer from the Himachal Pradesh cadre has lodged an FIR alleging she was cheated out of ₹10 lakh by a woman in Guwahati, Assam. Based on her complaint, Shimla Police have registered a case under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code for cheating and have initiated an investigation.
According to the complaint filed at the Chotta Shimla police station, the incident dates back to the period between 2020 and 2022, when the complainant’s husband was posted in Guwahati. During their time there, the accused woman reportedly borrowed ₹10 lakh from the IPS officer’s wife, assuring her that the amount would be repaid promptly.
However, despite the passage of considerable time, the accused has allegedly refused to return the money. The complainant stated that repeated attempts to contact the woman were met with evasion and, eventually, outright refusal to repay the loan.
Feeling deceived, the IPS officer’s wife pursued legal recourse and filed a formal complaint. Shimla Police have confirmed that an FIR under Section 420 has been registered, and legal proceedings are underway. Authorities are now preparing to summon the accused for questioning and may issue formal notices in the coming days.
