Mandi, May 6: What began as a joyous family outing in a new car ended in heartbreak on Sunday morning when a tragic accident near Bagra Thach in the Seraj region of Mandi claimed the lives of a mother and her son. The father, critically injured in the crash, is currently undergoing treatment.

The family, residents of Bhuntar, was on its way to offer prayers at the Khudi Jahal Temple in Dehuri to mark the occasion of their new car purchase. Around 9 a.m., while navigating a narrow stretch of road near Bagra Thach, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which then plunged nearly 100 meters into a deep gorge. The impact was so severe that the car was completely mangled.

Gaurav, the young son, died on the spot. His mother, Meena Devi, succumbed to her injuries shortly afterward. The father, Buddhi Singh, was rescued from the gorge with the help of local residents and rushed to Banjar Hospital. After initial treatment, he was referred to Kullu for further medical care.

Police from Janjehli reached the site and recovered the bodies, which were sent to Banjar Hospital for post-mortem. An FIR has been registered, and an investigation is underway, confirmed Station In-Charge Ramkrishna Thakur. DSP Karsog, Gauravjeet Singh, also verified the incident and said that a thorough probe is being conducted.

Local residents voiced concerns over the condition of the narrow and hazardous roads in the area, blaming poor infrastructure for repeated accidents. They urged the administration to take urgent steps toward road improvement to prevent further tragedies.
