Shimla, May 1: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today inaugurated the In-Patient Department (IPD) services at the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialty (AIMSS) located in Chamiana, near Shimla.
To ease patient load at IGMC Shimla and enhance the delivery of specialized healthcare services, departments including Gastroenterology, Neurology, Endocrinology, Nephrology, Urology, and Plastic Surgery have been shifted from IGMC to the newly established Chamiana Super Specialty Hospital. Cardiology and Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery (CTVS) services are also expected to be relocated to AIMSS within the next two months.
The Chief Minister inspected the hospital and directed officials to ensure high-quality healthcare services. During a meeting with hospital authorities, he reviewed the facilities being provided to patients and issued instructions for necessary improvements. He also asked the Public Works Department to further improve road access to the hospital and announced plans to enhance transport connectivity for patient convenience.
CM Sukhu stated that while the Chamiana hospital had been under construction for a long time, the present government took decisive steps to complete it. He noted that the project is being funded entirely by the state government, which has sanctioned ₹23 crore to ensure its completion. The hospital has a capacity of 337 beds and is equipped with state-of-the-art operation theatres and a catheterization lab. It is expected to become fully operational within six months.
The Chief Minister further shared that the government is upgrading all medical colleges and regional hospitals across the state with modern technology to provide world-class healthcare locally. This initiative, he said, would save both time and money for patients. Chamiana will also become the first hospital in the state to offer robotic surgery, with plans to introduce the same at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Medical College in Tanda, Kangra, shortly thereafter. He added that the process is underway to install 3 Tesla MRI machines at medical colleges in Tanda, Hamirpur, and Nerchowk, while the MRI machine at IGMC will soon be replaced.
He emphasized that the state government is investing ₹200 crore in medical technology upgrades to bring healthcare facilities in line with global standards.
Health Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh, Health Secretary M. Sudha Devi, AIMSS Principal Brij Sharma, and other senior officials were also present at the occasion.
