Curbing Drug Trafficking and Organized Crime
Over the past few years, the state has witnessed a rise in cases of drug trafficking and organized crime. There has been a longstanding demand for stronger action to curb these issues. The government believes that the establishment of STF police stations will help dismantle criminal networks and protect the youth from falling prey to drug abuse.

Creation of Investigation Units and Tribal STF Units
Along with setting up STF stations, two investigation units each have been created at the zonal and headquarters levels. These units will focus on cases involving commercial quantities of narcotics, organized crime rackets, repeat offenders, and property seizures.

Tribal STF Units in Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur
Special Tribal STF units have been formed in the tribal districts of Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur. Led by officers of sub-inspector rank, these units will assist the STF in investigating crimes specific to tribal regions.

Investigation Units to Work Under the Supervision of Police Superintendents
All investigation units will function under the administrative control of the Superintendent of the Special Task Force and the STF unit established at the Police Headquarters. At the headquarters level, an officer of the rank of ADGP or IGP will be designated to provide secretarial assistance.

Leadership of STF Stations
STF police stations in Nurpur, Una, Shimla, Kullu, Baddi, and Sirmaur will be headed by officers of the rank of Additional Superintendent of Police or Deputy Superintendent of Police.
