Shimla, April 25 – In a firm response to Thursday’s hours-long road blockade outside the state secretariat, police have registered an FIR against members of the Devbhoomi Kshatriya Sangathan and the Swarn Morcha, including state president Rumit Thakur. The protest was held to oppose the formation of a Swarn Commission and the increase in incentives for inter-caste marriages.

According to a police official, a case has been filed at the Chhota Shimla Police Station under Sections 189(2), 126(2), and 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The protest had caused massive traffic disruptions and public inconvenience across key city routes.

A large number of protesters had gathered, marching from Talland to the Secretariat before staging a sit-in on the main road in Chhota Shimla, effectively blocking traffic for several hours. The resulting congestion extended from the Old Bus Stand to Sanjauli, severely affecting the movement of vehicles and commuters, including schoolchildren and office-goers.

With demonstrators occupying the road well into the evening, long queues of vehicles formed on major routes. The primary road connecting the Old Bus Stand to Sanjauli was completely shut down, forcing buses to take alternate routes via Lakkar Bazar. Commuters heading toward Chhota Shimla were left with no option but to walk to their destinations.

The Devbhoomi Kshatriya Sabha has claimed that their demand for the formation of a Swarn Commission has been pending for the past two years. Organization president Rumit Thakur stated that the Chief Minister had assured them the commission would be formed within six months, yet no concrete action has been taken to date. “If commissions can be formed for other communities, why is the Swarn Samaj being neglected?” he asked.

The protest not only brought traffic to a standstill but also severely impacted daily life in the city. The public faced considerable difficulty commuting to work and managing essential tasks. In light of the disruptions, the police have adopted a stricter stance and initiated legal proceedings against those involved.
