Shimla, April 25: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu participated in a candlelight march organized by the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee in protest of the Pahalgam terror attack that occurred on April 22, 2025. The march, held from Sher-e-Punjab to the historic Ridge in Shimla, was a solemn tribute to the victims of the attack. Party leaders paid homage and expressed solidarity with the grieving families.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister said that the recently concluded Congress Working Committee meeting sent a clear message: any external force attempting to disrupt the unity and integrity of the nation will be met with strong resistance, with the Congress party standing firmly alongside the central government.

CM Sukhu strongly condemned the brutal targeting of tourists in the peaceful valleys of Jammu & Kashmir, calling the Pahalgam attack “deeply reprehensible.” He said the Congress party’s ideology has always upheld national unity, citing the ultimate sacrifices made by two of its Prime Ministers—Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi—as proof of its commitment.

Calling the targeted killing of 28 tourists in Pahalgam an attack on the fabric of national unity, the Chief Minister reiterated the Congress party’s full support for any measures the central government may take in response.

The All India Congress Committee and the Himachal Pradesh government, he said, stand in tribute to the victims and in solidarity with their families. As part of the statewide mourning, a two-minute silence was observed on Friday morning at the State Secretariat and all Deputy Commissioner offices.

The march witnessed the presence of Rajya Sabha MP and Congress in-charge for Himachal, Rajni Patil, HP Congress President Pratibha Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, Health Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil, Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan, Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi, Education Minister Rohit Thakur, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh, HPTDC Chairman R.S. Bali, State Planning Board Vice Chairman Bhawani Singh Pathania, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Kewal Singh Pathania, Mayor Surinder Chauhan, MLAs, senior Congress leaders, and a large number of citizens.
