Mandi, April 21 – Two newly constructed buildings of Sardar Patel University, located in Padhar and Basa, remain non-operational as they await formal inauguration by the state government. As a result, the university administration has been unable to utilize these facilities. Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition, Jairam Thakur, has sharply criticized the government, accusing Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of deliberate neglect.

Jairam Thakur alleged that the Chief Minister is personally targeting the university with an intention to shut it down. “The newly constructed buildings are not being made functional, and the existing infrastructure is being handed over to private colleges,” Thakur said.

Issuing a stern warning to the Chief Minister, Thakur added, “You won’t remain in power forever. If you continue to act with such discrimination today, you will have to face the consequences tomorrow.”

He further stated that Sardar Patel University was established in Mandi to cater to the educational needs of the region. “But the current government appears determined to sabotage the institution,” he added.

Thakur also raised concerns about plans to shift 18 B.Ed. colleges affiliated with the university back under the jurisdiction of Himachal Pradesh University. “These colleges generate over ₹3.5 crore in annual revenue for Sardar Patel University, which is essential for its functioning. While the state government provides no funding support, it is now attempting to cut off the university’s primary income source,” he alleged.

He urged the Chief Minister to refrain from such actions, which he described as detrimental to the state’s educational infrastructure.
