Land Dispute Sparks Chaos Again: Man Blocks Shimla-Dharamshala NH in Bilaspur
Frustrated over administrative inaction, local resident obstructs highway with bushes and stones, causing traffic disruption
Bilaspur, April 16 – In a repeated act of protest, a local resident once again blocked the Shimla-Dharamshala National Highway in the Mangrot area of Bilaspur district, causing significant inconvenience to travelers. The road was made one-way by placing bushes and stones, leading to long queues of vehicles and public frustration.
The protestor, Rajankant Sharma, claims he has been fighting for his land rights for several years, accusing the administration of consistently ignoring his demands. According to Rajankant, the PWD road encroaches upon land that belongs to him, and he has been requesting that the road be shifted slightly so he can use his property for business purposes.
Ongoing Dispute, Repeated Protests
This is not the first time Rajankant has resorted to such drastic measures. He has previously staged similar protests by placing tea stalls, cots, and even temporary shops on the road. Despite multiple complaints and warnings, no long-term solution has been offered, he claims.
He alleges that the land has already been demarcated in his favor, yet bureaucratic delays and administrative apathy have prevented a resolution. “I don’t want to trouble the public, but I am left with no other option,” Rajankant said while reiterating his demand for justice.
Public Anger, Official Response
Following the road blockage, local administrative officials reached the site and cleared the obstruction to resume normal traffic. However, repeated incidents like this have triggered anger among commuters, with many demanding strict action and a permanent resolution.
Residents of the area are now urging the authorities to address the land dispute at the earliest to prevent further disruptions and ensure smooth movement on this critical highway connecting Shimla to Dharamshala.
