Shimla, April 14:
The weather in Himachal Pradesh is about to take a dramatic turn as a new Western Disturbance is expected to hit the region from April 16 onwards, bringing with it hailstorms, heavy rain, and winds blowing at 40–50 km/h. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, Kangra, and Chamba, and a yellow alert for the remaining districts.
According to the Shimla Meteorological Centre, the weather will remain clear and dry on April 14 and 15, offering temporary relief and favorable conditions for agricultural activities like harvesting. However, the real shift in weather is set to begin on April 16, with possible thunderstorms and lightning.
Heavy Rain, Hail, and Gusty Winds from April 18
While April 16 and 17 will see localized weather disturbances, the most widespread impact is expected on April 18, when heavy rain, hailstorms, thunderstorms, and lightning are predicted across many regions.
An orange alert has been activated for five key districts — Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, Kangra, and Chamba — while the rest of the state will remain under a yellow alert.
The IMD has warned farmers to plan their agricultural work cautiously, as hailstorm activity could damage standing crops, fruits, and vegetables. The public has also been advised to remain alert due to possible disruptions like power outages, falling trees, and damaged infrastructure caused by strong winds.

Temperatures on the Rise Before the Storm
On Monday, the state recorded rising temperatures under clear skies. The lowest minimum temperature of 2.3°C was recorded in Kukumseri (Lahaul-Spiti), while Shimla clocked in at 12.6°C, Chamba at 13.6°C, and Kasauli at 16°C.
