Shimla, April 10: In a significant stride towards strengthening cyber security, Himachal Pradesh Police has introduced its elite team of eight “Cyber Commandos” — officers specially trained in advanced cyber crime investigation from India’s premier institutions. This initiative marks a bold move in line with the Ministry of Home Affairs’ “Digital Force” vision, aiming to bolster the state’s ability to combat rising digital threats.

Among the newly trained cyber warriors are Lance Head Constable Manu Sharma, Lance Constable Madhu Sharma, and Constable Ram Sharma, who successfully completed their training at the National Defense University (RRU), Gandhinagar on March 30, 2025. On the same day, Constable Akash Thakur completed his course from the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), Gandhinagar.

Continuing the trend of excellence, Constable Shubham Chauhan completed his advanced training on April 1, 2025, from IIT Madras, a premier institute in technological research. Meanwhile, Head Constable Ashish Kumar, Constable Rohit Guleria, and Constable Shashank Tanwar are set to finish their training at NFSU Delhi by April 13, 2025.

A Boost to Himachal’s Cyber Cell Capabilities

The deployment of these cyber-trained officers is expected to revolutionize the state’s approach to tackling online crimes. From decoding complex fraud networks to investigating digital footprints, these officers will be instrumental in making the Himachal Pradesh Police more tech-savvy and responsive to evolving cyber threats.

Additionally, they will play a key role in cyber awareness campaigns and training initiatives for citizens and fellow law enforcement personnel, ensuring a more informed and cyber-safe society.

This move sets a benchmark not just for Himachal Pradesh but also for other states aiming to modernize their police forces in the digital era. With cyber crimes on the rise nationwide, such proactive initiatives are a timely and much-needed intervention.
