Mandi, April 10:BJP MP and Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut’s recent statement branding the Congress as “forgotten children of the British” has sparked controversy in her home turf of Mandi. Former Congress candidate Pawan Thakur has hit back, demanding that Kangana clarify whether her remark was directed at the Congress party or her own grandfather, Sarju Thakur — a lifelong Congressman and former MLA from Gopalpur (now Sarkaghat).
Addressing the media, Pawan Thakur reminded Kangana of her political roots, stating, “Her grandfather was a typical Congressman. If she calls Congress children of the British, is she also accusing her own grandfather?” He emphasized that while Kangana is new to politics, such “absurd statements” undermine not only the legacy of Congress but also the contributions of leaders like Sarju Thakur.
Pawan Thakur also used the platform to criticize the previous BJP-led Jairam Thakur government, questioning its economic record and the necessity of a ₹35,000 crore loan despite central support during the pandemic. He contrasted this with the current leadership of CM Sukhvinder Sukhu, praising him for taking tough decisions to stabilize the state’s economy with limited resources.
Thakur urged Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur to focus on constructive criticism and public welfare instead of engaging in “cheap politics.”
As the political heat rises in Himachal Pradesh ahead of elections, Kangana’s comments and her political legacy have now become talking points — not just for voters, but within her own family history.
