Dharamshala, April 10:The traditional spirit of wrestling came alive on the second day of the Dhummu Shah fair in Dari, as wrestling bouts echoed through the grounds. The event was inaugurated by Superintendent of Police Shalini Agnihotri, who performed a ceremonial worship at the Bharari temple before declaring the competition open.
Speaking at the occasion, SP Shalini Agnihotri highlighted wrestling’s deep roots in Indian culture. “Wrestling began as a form of exercise in India, but today it stands tall as a professional sport bringing global recognition to the country,” she said.
Emphasizing the importance of sports in promoting a healthy lifestyle, she urged the youth to embrace physical activities and steer clear of drugs. “Our youth must take the lead in building a strong and vibrant society. The government is making consistent efforts to curb drug addiction, and your role in this mission is crucial,” she added.
Earlier, fair officer and SDM Sanjeev Bhot welcomed the chief guest and shared insights about the Dhummu Shah fair, stressing that community participation is key to its success. The event saw renowned wrestlers showcasing their talent, enthralling the audience with their skill and strength.
Prominent dignitaries present at the event included Municipal Corporation Joint Commissioner Surendra Kumar, Tehsildar Giriraj, and District Youth Services and Sports Officer Sunny Sharma. The wrestling matches added to the festive fervor, drawing large crowds and celebrating the region’s rich sporting heritage.
