Shimla, April 4: The 108 Ambulance Service in Himachal Pradesh, a critical pillar of the state’s healthcare system, has reached a significant milestone in maternal and newborn health. Since its inception on January 15, 2022, under the guidance of the National Health Mission (NHM) and the Government of Himachal Pradesh, the service has not only handled over 4.27 lakh emergencies but has also facilitated more than 3,060 successful deliveries, often in challenging and remote conditions.

The 108 Ambulance Service, operated by MedSwan Foundation, has played a pivotal role in reducing maternal and infant mortality rates in the state. With a remarkable average of one safe delivery every nine hours, the service has brought new life to families across Himachal Pradesh, even in the most inaccessible areas where healthcare services are scarce.

Among the districts, Sirmaur stands out with the highest number of safe deliveries — 809. Other notable districts include Shimla with 581 deliveries, Kullu with 312, Mandi with 307, and Solan with 343. Chamba and Kangra recorded 238 and 121 deliveries respectively, while Una had 112. The service also catered to smaller numbers of deliveries in Bilaspur (84), Hamirpur (76), Kinnaur (51), and Lahaul-Spiti (26).

The success of the 108 Ambulance Service is particularly significant in a hilly state like Himachal, where many villages are still remote and far from roads and healthcare facilities. Equipped with trained medical staff and state-of-the-art delivery kits, the ambulances have been able to conduct safe deliveries even when it was not possible to reach a hospital. This is a testament to the service’s ability to overcome difficult geographical barriers.

The ambulances, often reaching emergency situations where hospital access is unavailable, have ensured that mothers and newborns receive the best possible care, preventing potential complications. These efforts are a huge step forward in maternal and newborn health, showcasing how the right combination of resources, planning, and dedication can save lives.

These 3,060 deliveries are more than just numbers—they represent real stories of hope, joy, and survival. For every family whose life was saved thanks to the 108 Ambulance Service, these are the faces of future generations, filled with hope and promise.

The impact of the service has gone beyond emergency response, becoming a symbol of hope for people across the state. The collaborative effort of MedSwan Foundation, NHM, and the Himachal Pradesh government has proven to be a game-changer in providing healthcare access to all, regardless of location.

Looking forward, the MedSwan Foundation has expressed its commitment to further improving and expanding these services, ensuring that no citizen of Himachal Pradesh is left behind in the pursuit of health and well-being.
