Shimla, March 29, 2025 Following the conclusion of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly session, Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur spoke to the media, reiterating the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) commitment to fight for public interest both inside and outside the legislative House. Thakur emphasized that the BJP would continue to challenge the government on key issues concerning the people of the state, ensuring that their concerns are addressed and solutions are found.

Reflecting on the just-concluded budget session, which was one of the shortest in the state’s history with only 15 sittings, Thakur expressed his dissatisfaction with the government’s approach to critical issues. He pointed out that although MLAs raised matters pertinent to their constituencies and the state, there were insufficient efforts to resolve the problems raised during the sessions.

“The interest of the state is our priority,” Thakur said, stressing that the BJP would persist in fighting for the betterment of Himachal Pradesh, regardless of the government’s actions. “This time, the assembly session was the shortest budget session of Himachal, with only 15 meetings. However, the issues related to the state and our constituencies were raised by all MLAs. But we feel that there was a lack of tangible efforts to address those issues.”

Thakur further emphasized that the BJP would not limit its fight to the legislative process alone. “After the House, we will raise our voice among the general public for the rights of the people of the state. Our fight against increasing corruption and mafia rule in the state on the promises and guarantees made by the government will continue. We will not stop until the mafia rule is eradicated from the state. There is no place for mafia rule in Devbhoomi,” he asserted.

The BJP leader expressed grave concern over what he described as an escalating trend of corruption and illegal influence in the state, which he said was undermining the state’s development. Thakur’s comments signal the party’s resolve to confront the government’s policies and actions, particularly in the areas of governance and law enforcement, where they believe the current administration has failed to act decisively.

In addition to criticizing the government, Thakur took a moment to praise the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha for its standard of conduct and efficiency. He highlighted the high regard in which the House is held by visiting dignitaries from across the country. “The Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha has always set high standards. Honourables from across the country come here, watch the proceedings, and praise both the House and its members,” Thakur said. “All the honourable members of this House deserve congratulations for setting and maintaining such high standards.”

Thakur’s statement underscores the BJP’s intent to continue its political struggle, both within the legislature and on the ground. The party appears to be gearing up for a long-term campaign focused on public grievances, particularly those concerning the administration’s handling of corruption and mafia influence in the state. Thakur’s pledge to keep fighting for the people’s rights resonates with his broader political strategy, which seeks to position the BJP as the party of accountability and reform in Himachal Pradesh.

As the assembly session concludes, political observers are closely watching how the BJP’s continued push for answers will impact the government’s policies and public opinion in the months to come.
