Keylong, March 24: In a move aimed at ensuring the safety of travelers and workers during ongoing renovation work, the District Magistrate of Lahaul, Rahul Kumar, has announced a two-hour traffic ban on March 25. The ban will be enforced along the road from Sissu (Nursery) to the ATR North Portal, an important stretch connecting the region to National Highway NH-03.
The decision was made due to the ongoing renovation work on the Teling road in the sub-division of Lahaul, which serves as a critical alternative route to NH-03. According to the district administration, the renovation work has created a potential hazard for vehicles traveling along this road, with the risk of falling stones, rocks, and debris. As a precautionary measure, it has been deemed necessary to restrict vehicle movement in the affected area to ensure public safety.
The road will be closed for all vehicles, except emergency vehicles, from 07:00 AM to 09:00 AM on March 25, 2025. The ban is aimed at preventing accidents that could result from loose debris and unstable terrain during the construction phase.
To manage the traffic flow and enforce the restrictions, the local Police Department will be stationed along the route. Police personnel will keep a strict vigil, assist travelers, and ensure compliance with the road closure. Travelers who rely on this route are urged to plan their journeys accordingly, keeping in mind the scheduled two-hour traffic suspension.
This precautionary move is being taken as part of the district’s commitment to the safety of both residents and visitors. With the renovation of the Teling road being a crucial infrastructural project for the region, the temporary disruption is considered necessary for the long-term benefits of the area. Once completed, the road will offer a safer and more reliable link to NH-03, benefiting the local community and travelers alike.
The district administration has also advised all those traveling through the region to stay informed about the road closure and adjust their travel times. Given the importance of the ATR North Portal road for local and through traffic, the authorities are hopeful that the brief disruption will cause minimal inconvenience.
As the region continues to improve its infrastructure, the authorities remain focused on the well-being and safety of all individuals traveling in and out of Lahaul. The renovation work is part of broader efforts to enhance the accessibility of this mountainous region and reduce travel risks posed by aging infrastructure.
Travelers are encouraged to follow all official advisories and cooperate with the authorities to ensure a smooth and safe journey during the temporary road closure on March 25.
