Bilaspur, March 23: For the first time, Bilaspur district is hosting an international-level paragliding championship, marking a significant milestone in the state’s adventure tourism landscape. The four-day event, running from March 23 to March 27, is being held under the joint aegis of the District Administration Bilaspur and the Tourism Department. The inauguration ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including the State Government’s Health and Family Welfare, Social Justice and Empowerment, and Soldier Welfare Minister, Dr. Dhaniram Shandil. Other dignitaries present included Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani, former Minister Ramlal Thakur, former MLA Tilak Raj, Deputy Commissioner of Bilaspur Abid Hussain Sadiq, and various members of the Paragliding Association.
A New Adventure Destination in Himachal Pradesh
The paragliding competition is taking place at Bandla Dhar in Bilaspur, a site considered ideal for acrobatic flights due to its favorable terrain and weather conditions. Minister Shandil emphasized that Bandla Dhar’s paragliding facilities are among the best in the region. Over 70 participants from six countries have already registered for the event, including national and international master paragliders, professional players, and members of various security forces. The competition aims to bring global attention to the region and highlight the state’s growing prominence in the field of adventure sports.
Boosting Bilaspur’s Tourism and Economy
In his address, Minister Shandil expressed confidence that such events would provide Bilaspur with a new identity both nationally and internationally. He noted that the competition would boost local tourism, contributing to the region’s economic growth and creating new opportunities for the youth. The state government is keen on promoting Bilaspur as a major tourist hub, with plans already in motion for expanding adventure sports in the area. Alongside paragliding, the government has introduced water sports activities at Govind Sagar Lake and plans to expand these offerings with adventure sports in Koldam.
