Kullu, March 24: A disturbing incident of alleged police assault has come to light in Mankhadi village, Kullu district, sparking outrage after a viral video of the event surfaced on social media. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, involved a car driver who was reportedly assaulted by police personnel following a collision involving his vehicle.
According to reports, the driver’s car collided with another vehicle in Mankhadi village. At the time of the incident, the driver’s three-year-old granddaughter was also in the car. The police stopped the vehicle at Dhalpur Chowk and detained the driver. When the driver returned after dropping off his granddaughter, the police allegedly assaulted him.
Eyewitnesses and social media accounts suggest that after the altercation, police personnel attempted to pressure a local doctor to falsely claim that the driver was intoxicated, but the doctor reportedly refused to comply. In a further escalation of the incident, it is also alleged that the phone of a family member, who was filming the assault, was broken by the police officers.
The video, which captured the brutal encounter, quickly went viral on social media, drawing widespread condemnation from the public. The public outcry over the incident has raised serious concerns regarding police misconduct and the treatment of citizens by law enforcement.
In response to the viral video and growing public outrage, Kullu’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SP) Karthikeyan Gokulchandran ordered an immediate investigation into the incident. After conducting a preliminary inquiry, three police personnel, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), were suspended. Additionally, a home guard was removed from duty.
“The investigation into this matter is ongoing, and we are taking appropriate steps to ensure accountability. The actions of the involved officers are under scrutiny, and strict action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation,” said SP Gokulchandran.
He further assured the public that justice would be served and that the department would not tolerate any form of police brutality. He added that the incident would be thoroughly examined, and measures would be implemented to prevent such occurrences in the future.
The incident has triggered strong reactions from various sections of society, with many questioning the behavior of the police officers involved. Citizens and social media users have expressed anger over the alleged assault and called for a transparent and fair investigation.
