Chief Minister receiving the award
Shimla, March 23: In a significant recognition of Himachal Pradesh’s rapid development, the state has been conferred with the prestigious Diamond Status Award at the Diamond States Summit-2025, organized by the Network 18 Group in New Delhi. The award highlights the remarkable progress made under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who received the honor at a special ceremony today.
The Chief Minister, in his address, expressed his commitment to transforming Himachal Pradesh into a self-reliant and prosperous state. He emphasized that the state’s development is focused on structural reforms aimed at ensuring long-term financial stability and growth. Sukhu further stated that his government is dedicated to asserting Himachal’s rights within the federal structure and is actively fighting for more resources and funding to drive the state’s development agenda.
A Vision for Sustainable Growth
Outlining his administration’s priorities, Chief Minister Sukhu emphasized key sectors such as education, health, hydropower, and green energy. The government’s efforts to strengthen the education system are a top priority, alongside plans to integrate advanced medical technologies into the state’s health institutions. The Chief Minister noted that Himachal Pradesh has immense potential in the hydropower sector, which has often been underutilized. However, Sukhu stated that his government has raised concerns with the Centre regarding the state’s rightful share of royalties and is also working on taking over control of hydropower projects to ensure fair returns for the state.
In line with the state’s ambitious goals, Sukhu shared details about Vision-2027, which aims to establish Himachal Pradesh as the first green energy state in the country. “We are committed to making Himachal a green energy state by 2026, and we are making significant strides towards this goal,” he said. As part of this initiative, Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) has set a target of establishing 500 MW of solar power capacity by 2026-27. Currently, solar power projects totaling 626 MW are under development in various stages, signifying the state’s dedication to renewable energy.
Promoting Tourism and Infrastructure Development
Tourism, an integral part of Himachal Pradesh’s economy, is also a major focus of the state government’s development plans. Chief Minister Sukhu announced the development of four natural wellness centers to boost health tourism, a sector that has immense growth potential. These centers will play a crucial role in attracting tourists interested in wellness and relaxation, further enhancing the state’s appeal as a top tourist destination. In addition to this, ambitious infrastructure projects are underway to improve tourism-related facilities, which are expected to significantly increase the flow of visitors to the state.
Welfare and Upliftment of the People
In his speech, Sukhu underscored the importance of welfare and upliftment programs for the people of Himachal Pradesh. He highlighted his personal connection with the people, stating that his decision to arrive at the Vidhan Sabha in an Alto car was a symbolic gesture to show his deep-rooted connection with the common man. The Chief Minister expressed his humility and dedication to improving the lives of every resident of the state.
The Chief Media Advisor, Naresh Chauhan, Resident Commissioner Meera Mohanty, and other senior state officials were present alongside the Chief Minister at the ceremony. The Managing Editor of News 18 India also extended a warm welcome to Sukhu, acknowledging the remarkable progress Himachal Pradesh has made under his leadership.
The Diamond Status Award serves as a testament to the state’s achievements and the Chief Minister’s focused leadership. With an emphasis on sustainable development, green energy, and inclusive growth, Himachal Pradesh is poised to continue its trajectory of progress, setting an example for other states across India.
