SJVN’s Nathpa Jhakri Hydroelectric Station Wins “Best Maintained Project” Award, Sets Record for Power Generation

Shimla, March 22 – SJVN’s flagship 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydroelectric Station (NJHPS) has been honored with the prestigious ‘CBIP Award for Best Maintained Project in the Hydroelectricity Sector’ for the financial year 2024-25. The award was presented at a grand ceremony in New Delhi, where SJVN Chairman & Managing Director (Additional Charge) Raj Kumar Chaudhary and NJHPS Project Head Ashutosh Bahuguna received the accolade, marking yet another milestone in the station’s remarkable journey.
The award recognizes SJVN’s exceptional efforts in the successful implementation, operation, and maintenance of India’s largest underground hydroelectric project, located in the rugged terrains of Himachal Pradesh. With its outstanding civil structures and remarkable achievements in power generation, the Nathpa Jhakri project has consistently been a leader in the hydroelectric sector.

Additionally, the project also set a new record for single-day power generation, with an impressive 39.572 million units generated on August 13, 2024. However, perhaps the most outstanding achievement came in July 2024, when NJHPS set its highest-ever monthly power generation at 1222.170 million units. Despite the challenges posed by high levels of silt in the Satluj River, the project continued to generate power without any significant shutdowns, demonstrating the reliability and resilience of the infrastructure.
