Shimla, March 21: In a significant development on Friday, the BJP Legislature Party reached the Raj Bhavan in Shimla to submit a memorandum to the Governor, urging for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the death of Vimal Negi, the Chief Engineer of the Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL). The tragic incident has sparked widespread political and public debate, with calls for transparency and accountability.

The memorandum, presented by Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur, BJP State President Rajiv Bindal, and other senior party leaders, calls for a thorough CBI probe into the circumstances surrounding Negi’s death. The party leaders also demanded a wider investigation into the activities of HPPCL over the past two years to ensure that any irregularities or lapses are exposed.

Jairam Thakur, while addressing the media outside the Raj Bhavan, stated that the death of the Chief Engineer had raised several serious questions. According to Thakur, the family of Vimal Negi had strongly urged for a CBI investigation after alleging that higher officials within HPPCL had been pressuring the late engineer to engage in unethical practices. These claims were further corroborated by the family’s demand for the suspension of certain officials involved. However, Thakur pointed out that only one individual had been suspended, leaving the larger issue unaddressed.

“The family of Vimal Negi has explicitly stated their concerns, and it is essential that a fair and impartial investigation is conducted to uncover the truth. We believe that a CBI inquiry is the only way to ensure justice and transparency in this matter,” Thakur said. He further emphasized that the BJP had raised the issue in the state legislative assembly, but when their concerns were ignored by the ruling party, they were left with no option but to walk out in protest.

The BJP’s demand for a CBI investigation is rooted in concerns that the ongoing probe by local authorities may not be independent or exhaustive enough to uncover the full extent of the circumstances surrounding Negi’s death. Party leaders also expressed fears that political influence could hinder the pursuit of justice, making an external agency like the CBI necessary to ensure an unbiased inquiry.

In addition to demanding a CBI probe, Jairam Thakur also expressed alarm over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. “The rise in violence, including shootings and killings, alongside the increasing prevalence of drugs, are matters of grave concern. The state government needs to take immediate action to address these issues and ensure the safety and security of the people,” Thakur added.

The memorandum also emphasized the importance of a transparent and accountable government, one that does not shy away from investigating issues that affect public trust. The BJP leadership has called for swift action in Negi’s case, urging the Governor to take the necessary steps to ensure that justice is served.

The tragic death of Vimal Negi continues to cast a shadow over the political landscape of Himachal Pradesh. As the investigation progresses, the demand for an impartial inquiry grows louder, with both the BJP and the family of the deceased insisting that the truth must come to light. The case is likely to remain a focal point of political discourse in the state for the foreseeable future.
