Vice Chancellor Prof. Sat Prakash Bansal arrived as the chief guest
Dharamshala, March 20, 2025 – The “Young MP 2025” district-level competition, organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, was inaugurated today at the Dhauladhar campus of Central University of Himachal Pradesh in Dharamshala. The event gathered enthusiastic young minds as they shared their views on the topic “One Nation-One Election: A Step Towards Developed India.”
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Vice Chancellor Prof. Sat Prakash Bansal, Dean of Academics Prof. Pradeep Kumar, and Registrar Prof. Suman Sharma. The program, which began on March 20, will run until March 21, providing a platform for the youth to present their ideas. The selected participants at the district level will have the opportunity to present their views at the state capital, Shimla, with the ultimate goal of representing their ideas in the Indian Parliament.
The competition opened with a traditional lamp lighting ceremony, symbolizing the beginning of a new journey for these young minds. Dr. Malkiyat Singh, Associate Professor in the Hindi Department and coordinator of the event, gave a comprehensive overview of the competition. He also showcased a video highlighting the activities conducted by the National Service Scheme (NSS) across various campuses in Dharamshala, Shahpur, and Dehra, which was well appreciated by the attendees.
Registrar Prof. Suman Sharma welcomed the participants and emphasized the significance of such a program for the university and its students. “It is a matter of great pride for the university to host such an event, giving young people a chance to voice their opinions,” Prof. Sharma said. He wished all the youth success in their presentations.
Chief Guest, Vice Chancellor Prof. Sat Prakash Bansal, addressed the gathering with an inspiring speech, encouraging the participants to contribute meaningfully to the development of the nation. “The Central University has a history of organizing state-level competitions, such as ‘Ek Bharat-Shrestha Bharat’ and ‘Vikasit Bharat Yuva Leddha Samvaad,’ and this year’s event continues in that spirit. It is crucial that young minds like you share your thoughts on important issues like ‘One Nation-One Election,’ as it plays a significant role in the progress of the country,” he said.
Special guest Prof. Pradeep Kumar also took the stage to motivate the youth, urging them to participate actively and understand their responsibility in shaping the future of the nation. He expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by the participants and encouraged them to seize this opportunity to learn and grow. “This competition is not just about presenting ideas; it’s about understanding the power of youth in nation-building,” Prof. Kumar said.
The competition’s theme, “One Nation-One Election,” sparked thoughtful discussions among the participants. It is an ongoing topic of debate in Indian politics, as many believe that simultaneous elections at the national and state levels would lead to better governance, reduced costs, and enhanced political stability. The 35 youth who participated on the first day of the competition passionately presented their views on how this proposal could contribute to a more developed and unified India.
The program’s organizers emphasized that the competition was not just about presenting well-prepared speeches but also about encouraging young people to think critically about issues affecting their country. The participants were given a platform to engage with each other, challenge ideas, and share solutions to national problems.
At the end of the first day, Prof. Sat Prakash Bansal congratulated the participants for their hard work and commitment to the competition. He expressed his confidence that these young voices would contribute positively to the country’s future. The competition, which will continue on March 21, will see 22 more participants share their insights on the same theme.
The event also provided an opportunity for the university and its students to connect with the larger national discourse, bringing attention to issues that are of great importance in shaping the future of the country. With more than 35 students participating in the district-level competition, the “Young MP 2025” event has proven to be a significant platform for young people to engage with the political process and voice their opinions on key national issues.
As the competition concludes tomorrow, the excitement around it continues to build, with all eyes set on the next phase where the top participants will represent their thoughts at the state level and, ultimately, in the Indian Parliament.
