Dharamshala, March 20, 2025 – Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP) is set to revolutionize higher education in the region with its new initiative offering five online courses starting from July 2025. As part of its commitment to expanding educational opportunities, CUHP has established a Distance and Online Learning Center aimed at providing accessible and quality education to students both within India and abroad.
In the first phase, the university will offer postgraduate degree programs in five major disciplines: MBA, MCA, MA in History, MA in Economics, and MA in Political Science. These programs are designed to cater to students who are unable to attend traditional classes, thus making education more inclusive for all.
At the unveiling of the new initiative, Vice Chancellor of CUHP, Prof. Sat Prakash Bansal, expressed his enthusiasm about the project. He highlighted the importance of the Distance and Online Learning Center in providing high-quality education to students who have been deprived of access to traditional learning systems. Prof. Bansal emphasized the university’s responsibility in ensuring that education reaches every student, irrespective of their geographical location or financial background.
“The launch of this center is a step towards making higher education more accessible. It is crucial that we create opportunities for those who are unable to access conventional education,” said Prof. Bansal. “With the introduction of these online programs, CUHP aims to help students across the country and beyond, offering them a platform to learn, grow, and develop.”
The Distance and Online Learning Center will be equipped with a state-of-the-art media lab where video recordings of lectures related to the various courses will be produced. This will ensure that students have access to high-quality learning materials. The university is also in the process of developing a dedicated website for the center, where students can find detailed information about the courses, admission procedures, and more.
Prof. Vishal Sood, Director of the Distance and Online Learning Center, thanked the Vice Chancellor for his continued support and leadership in launching the initiative. “We are working tirelessly to create comprehensive online learning materials for these courses. This will provide students with a dynamic and enriching learning experience,” Prof. Sood said.
The online programs will be available at affordable fees, making it easier for students from various socio-economic backgrounds to access higher education. The university plans to expand the initiative in the future, introducing more undergraduate and postgraduate programs in various fields, thereby offering students a wide range of options for online learning.
Prof. Suman Sharma, the university’s Registrar, also expressed her excitement over the initiative. She highlighted the role of online education in transforming the educational landscape, especially for students in remote areas. Prof. Sharma stated that the center’s efforts would bridge the gap between traditional and modern forms of education, making learning more flexible and adaptable to individual needs.
The university also aims to attract international students through these online courses, opening doors for them to pursue higher education from a reputed Indian institution without having to relocate. This move is in line with CUHP’s vision of promoting global education and creating an inclusive academic environment.
Several other key figures from the university were present at the unveiling event, including Prof. Sandeep Kulshrestha, Director of the Adventure and Cultural Tourism Promotion Center, Co-Director Dr. Chaman Lal, and Assistant Director Dr. Harish Gautam. They all expressed their support for the initiative and affirmed the university’s dedication to offering innovative and accessible education.
In the coming months, the university will continue to develop and refine the structure of its online courses, ensuring that the content is up-to-date, relevant, and engaging. With a strong emphasis on providing affordable and flexible education, CUHP’s Distance and Online Learning Center promises to be a game-changer for students seeking higher education opportunities.
As the start date for the online courses draws near, prospective students are encouraged to visit the university’s website for more information and to begin their applications for the upcoming academic sessions. This initiative marks a significant step toward transforming the educational landscape of Himachal Pradesh and extending the reach of CUHP’s academic excellence to a wider audience.
