Dharamshala, March 16: The iconic ‘Graves Legacy Awards 2025’ ceremony was organized by the Administration of the Government College Dharamshala on Sunday, which witnessed the presence of several batches of alumni who came to celebrate their academic success and their roots. The ceremony, initiated by the Old Student Association (OSA), was presided by the Deputy Chief Whip of the Legislative Assembly and Shahpur MLA Kewal Singh Pathania who emphasized the contribution of alumni as a major asset in the legacy of the institution.

It was graced by SDM Sanjeev Bhot, Commissioner of Municipal Corporation Zafar Iqbal, Founder President of OSA Dr. AK Sharma, Principal of the college Rakesh Pathania, guest of honor and guests. Kewal Singh Pathania lit the lamp at the start of the ceremony and in his address to the gathering, he stressed the guiding role that the alumni play in the furtherance of any educational institutions growth and otherwise progress.

Alumni: The Greatest Legacy of any Institution

Addressing his audience, Pathania said alumni are the “invaluable heritage” of any institution. He further added, “Alumni are the support which guides the current generation of students with their knowledge and experiences.” He continued explaining that the ceremony was not just a symbolism for seeing what alumni become after leaving his school, but a chance for them to reminisce and inspire current students. An alumnus of Dharamshala College, Pathania recounted his memories from his college days and spoke about how the college moulded his academic and personality development.

In another significant development, the Deputy Chief Whip announced that with the cooperation of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the government had earmarked Rs 25 lakh to be utilised for the construction of a modern gymnasium within the college premises. It will include all the facilities for students and is expected to contribute to the institution’s infrastructure development.

Enhancing the Alumni Community

Pathania talked about the purpose of Old Students Association (OSA) that focuses on the building of strong community among alumni. Such a network not only maintains alumni connection but also serves a significant purpose in enhancing the college’s standing. OSA is a forum for alumni to exchange ideas, connect on opportunities and give back to the institution in a manner that contributes to its continued success, he said. In addition, the Deputy chief Whip pointed out that the association is important in maintaining a dialogue between current students and alumni and facilitates a copy of knowledge, advice, and inspiration.

The OSA not only helps to connect alumni, but its purpose is to create a link that both is a reminder of and bridges between the past and present — to foster ideas, both for the college and the world. He said that he was sure continued efforts by the OSA would lead the college into higher altitudes, towards academic excellence and in the service of the social welfare.
