Hamirpur, March 03: Light has been shed on the case of suicide of a student in the National Institute of Technology (NIT) of the district. An engineering student of dual degree course in final year was found hanging from a noose in his hostel room. The incident has caused sensation in the institute and a wave of mourning has spread among the students.

Student Ayansh Sharma, who is deceased is said to be a native of Uttar Pradesh. Hamirpur police reached the spot as soon as they received information regarding the incident and took the body into custody and started investigation. No clear reason for the suicide have been found out in the preliminary investigation. So police is questioning the friends and family of the student to get to the bottom of the incident.

Prof. Suryavanshi, the Director of NIT Hamirpur expressed profound grief when he heard the news of the event, and termed it highly unfortunate. The institute will conduct a serious probe into the matter, he said, adding that if required action will be taken related to mental health and stress of the students.

Given the rising levels of stress and mental health issues among students, mental health needs special focus in educational institutions, according to experts. They must only work to improve counseling and mental health services in such unprecedentedly followed subsystems. Currently, the police is probing the case thoroughly and is trying to get to know about the reasons resulting in the suicide.
