A thug who reached a jewellery shop posing as a customer stole a gold ring, caught on CCTV, case registered
Shimla, February 14: A case has come to light of a cunning thug replacing a gold ring with a copper ring at Fateh Chand Bansi Lal Jewellers located on Mall Road in the capital Shimla.
On the complaint of the shop manager Rajendra Sharma, the police have registered a case and started investigation.
The complainant Rajendra Sharma is a resident of Ratanpur village of Karsog tehsil of Mandi district and is currently working as a manager at Fateh Chand Bansi Lal Jewellers.
In the complaint given to the police, he told that on February 12, 2025, when he checked the stock, a copper ring was found in place of a gold ring.
On suspicion, he checked the CCTV footage. In the footage, on January 25, 2025 at 3:20 pm, a person was seen cleverly replacing a gold ring with a copper ring from the tray of rings.
In the shop records, the accused had given his name as Nitish Kapoor.
According to the complaint, the missing gold ring weighed 11.830 grams and was valued at Rs 1,11,820. As soon as the incident came to light, the police swung into action and started identifying and searching for the accused on the basis of CCTV footage.
The police have registered a case under Section 305A and 3(5) BNS at Sadar police station.
A police officer said that the accused will be arrested soon on the basis of his mobile number and CCTV footage.
At the same time, the police say that shopkeepers also need to be vigilant and ensure the correct identification of customers.
The police is investigating the matter thoroughly and is claiming to catch the accused soon.
