The Trinamool Congress has decided to not present any candidate from their party in the upcoming elections for the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council, which are going to be held on 21st February 2025.

TMC maintains a position as the biggest opposition party in the state with five MLAs yet it selects to develop its local infrastructure rather than compete in every political race. The opposition Leader Mukul Sangma stated that the party is reevaluating their strategy in those regions where they are facing a lot of trouble to gain lands.

TMC has a strong hold in Garo Hills, but they are facing a lot of obstacles in Khasi and Jaintia Hills. The twist here is that Chief Minister Conrad K Samgma’s party National People’s Party (NPP) has a strong hold in these areas where TMC is facing obstacles. Meanwhile, NPP, Voice of the People Party (VPP), United Democratic Party (UDP), and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are all set for the elections.
