Shimla, February 9: The efforts of the state government to make Devbhoomi Himachal the best tourist destination are bearing fruit. With the start of Stillwater activities in the lakes and reservoirs here, adventure and thrilling tourism is getting a boost. The lake present in Tattapani, a famous religious and tourist place of Mandi district, has emerged as the mini Goa of Himachal with various recreational water activities.

At a distance of just 55 km from the capital Shimla, the various recreational water activities organized in the lake built on the Sutlej river in Tattapani, Karsog sub-division and the Tapobhoomi of Rishi Jamdagni, the natural beauty of the lake, the hot water springs present here, the mountains filled with natural beauty around the lake, are giving a different feeling to the tourists coming here.

Jet ski, speed boat are available here
Under the state government’s tourism policy, jet ski, speed boat, bumper boat, banana ride, e-foil, water ski, ATV bike etc. running in Tattapani lake are attracting tourists. At present, 8 jet ski, 10 speed boat, one bumper boat, one banana ride, 2 jetovators, 4 e-foil, 2 water ski and 2 ATV bike are being operated here. These are being operated under the supervision of trained guides and drivers.

Employment is being provided along with entertainment
With the start of water sports activities, people have also got direct and indirect employment here. About 200 to 250 people are engaged in employment here, out of which 35 have got direct employment from water sports activities taking place in the lake and more than 200 people have also got employment. Traders are also getting benefits due to increase in the number of tourists.

The first President of the country has also visited Tattapani

Tattapani is also a religious place. It is believed that Maharishi Jamdagni had meditated here for years and the sulfurous hot water present here is available since ancient times. The hot water source or Kund in Tattapani was inaugurated by the first President Dr. Rajendra Prasad on 22 September 1952. In the year 1938, Nobel Prize winner poet, litterateur and philosopher Rabindra Nath Tagore has also visited Tattapani.

Tourists from all over the country are reaching Tattapani
Tourists from all over the country are reaching Tattapani to enjoy the water sports activities organized in the lake. These mainly include tourists from Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and other states. Tourists visiting the Queen of Mountains, Shimla, are now also turning to Tattapani. Earlier they were limited only to Kufri, Naldhera, Mashobra, Narkanda etc. With the start of water activities in Tattapani reservoir, they have started staying here for an extra day. The hoteliers of Shimla and nearby areas are also getting direct benefit of this.

Hundreds of tourists arriving daily during the tourist season

Prem Raina, Secretary of Tattapani Water Sports Association, said that with the start of still water activities in the lake, the area has emerged as an adventurous and thrilling tourist destination and this place is being called the Mini Goa of the state. During the tourist season, more than 100 vehicles and 400 to 500 tourists are reaching Tattapani daily. With the increase in movement, the hotel business located in and around Tattapani is getting benefit. The state government is also getting additional revenue. According to Prem Raina, in the last one year, about 50 to 60 thousand tourists have reached Tattapani.

The lake was built in 2015

A reservoir was built in Tattapani in the year 2015 due to the construction of a cold dam on the Sutlej river. Rules were framed by the state government to start still water activities in the lake. Following this, the first agency in Himachal Pradesh was registered to start water sports activities by the name of Tattapani Travels. Various activities are conducted by pilots trained from National Skill Training Institute Water Sports Goa.
