Shimla, January 30: ED has taken major action against illegal mining in Beas river of Himachal Pradesh and Yamuna river area in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. ED has filed a chargesheet against eight people in this case in a special court in Ghaziabad. These include the main accused Gyan Chand. The court has taken cognizance of this complaint of ED, which has increased the difficulties of the accused.
ED had registered this case on the basis of several complaints and intelligence information, which gave information about illegal mining gangs operating in an organized manner in Kangra and Una districts of Himachal Pradesh. Investigation revealed that illegal property worth hundreds of crores of rupees has been acquired from these illegal activities. ED had started investigation in this case on the basis of six FIRs registered by Himachal Pradesh Police, in which allegations of illegal mining on government land and use of heavy machinery were made.

Let us tell you that a case of illegal mining was also registered in Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. In which Gyan Chand and others were charged under IPC, Public Property Damage Prevention Act and Mines and Minerals Act. This FIR was also included in the ED investigation. ED arrested the main accused Gyan Chand and his associate Sanjay Kumar alias Sanjay Dhiman in this case on 18 November 2024. After this, property worth about Rs 4.9 crore was also seized on 3 January 2025.
Involvement of mining gang exposed in raid
During the investigation, ED raided 12 places in Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Which also included the hideouts of Gyan Chand and his associates. During this, many documents and digital evidence were seized. It was clear from the action of ED that Gyan Chand and his associates were involved in illegal mining spread from Beas river to Yamuna river.

Properties purchased from black money
ED’s investigation revealed that the black money earned from this illegal mining was used to buy immovable properties, trucks, tippers, JCBs, crushers and other mining machinery. This organized gang illegally acquired property worth crores of rupees by exploiting mineral wealth. According to ED, the investigation in this case is still going on and there is a possibility that more big revelations can be made in this case.
