Shimla, January 1: Himachal Pradesh is preparing for significant weather changes as rain and snowfall are expected across various regions from January 2 to 7. An active western disturbance is anticipated to bring the heaviest precipitation on January 5 and 6, accompanied by a notable drop in temperatures, which will impact both high-altitude areas and plains.

On Wednesday, dense fog enveloped the plain districts of Una, Kangra, Mandi, Hamirpur, and Bilaspur during the morning and evening hours, severely reducing visibility. The meteorological department has issued an alert for continued foggy conditions on Thursday and advised caution for those traveling in affected areas.

While lower regions struggled with poor visibility, much of the state, including Shimla, experienced clear weather, which led to a slight rise in maximum temperatures—by three to four degrees—compared to Tuesday.

Authorities have warned the public to remain cautious while traveling in foggy conditions and to stay informed about weather updates to ensure safety.
