HPSEBL Joint Front Raises Concerns Over Financial Irregularities and Rationalization Policies
Shimla, December 27: Allegations of financial irregularities in contractor payments have surfaced within the Electricity Board, raising serious concerns about its governance and fiscal discipline. The HPSEBL Joint Front has demanded an impartial investigation into these irregularities and has appealed to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to ensure transparency and accountability in the Board’s operations.
Reports suggest that despite ongoing discussions about improving the Electricity Board’s financial health, arbitrary payments amounting to lakhs of rupees have been made to contractors. The HPSEBL Joint Front claims that these payments exploit the Board’s precarious financial condition, with systemic lapses enabling such fraud.
Rationalization Proposals Under Scrutiny
The Joint Front has criticized recent rationalization proposals by the Electricity Board management, alleging that they aim to divert attention from the irregularities. The Chief Minister had previously assured the Joint Front that any rationalization measures would be undertaken only after comprehensive discussions with them. However, the Board has reportedly advanced plans without consulting the Front, violating this agreement.
The Joint Front views these unilateral actions as detrimental to transparency and collaboration, arguing that rationalization should begin at the highest levels of management if implemented at all.

Warning of Statewide Agitation
The Joint Front has announced its readiness to launch a statewide agitation if rationalization moves ahead without proper consultation. A State Committee meeting will soon be convened to decide on the agitation’s structure and timeline.
The Joint Front emphasized the need for the Chief Minister’s intervention to ensure that any decisions regarding the Electricity Board align with fairness, transparency, and the welfare of its employees and stakeholders.
As the issue unfolds, the Joint Front remains committed to safeguarding the interests of the Electricity Board and ensuring accountability in its operations.
