“Fire Safety or Mismanagement? Establishments Ordered to Break Roofs in Lower Bazar”
Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), 28 November, Thursday
Kartik Sharma, Diary Times: The case is of Lower Bazar Shimla, where the shopkeepers were unfairly ordered to break the extended roofs, while a fire engine was stranded in three different locations.
Is it in any way reasonable for the state high court to reject the three shopkeepers’ fundamental argument—that a roof keeps rainwater out of the store—because they made unrelated statements?
The government issued the Tughlaqi edict after realising how difficult it was to get the fire department vehicle from CTO Chowk to Naz Chowk. However, before issuing the order, no one wanted to know how the three shopkeepers would feel. The government declares this dictatorial position. The case projects that the many are expected to bow down to the few they have elected as their representatives. Meaning to say that the government sticks hard on this authoritarian stance, that may not be applicable in every situation, but, the common people have to bow down under the government, almost in every case.
The case of the truck
Further the truck was stuck in places like the roof of a shop near Mehru Chowk, fourteen precious minutes, it took for the giant Tata truck in covering this 200 meter patch. I don’t know why this truck had to pass through here. Before the high court took the decision to break the rooftops of these shopkeepers, it didn’t use its intellect I think, why it did not think to rather buy trucks which were smaller in size?
(humorous line) Oh! let ‘s put some balance in the article, so that the editor or the court does not get annoyed. It is important to listen to the government, but when your rights are at stake, isn’t it more important to be aware and stand up for your rights.
Atri ji, who is the Deputy Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of the state, would have thought of getting a new and smaller fire truck instead of this threat of removing the “Chajja” before the mock drill warning. It’s not just a matter of opinion, it’s a fact.
A few days back when there was a forest fire in Kyarkoti, which is a village in Shimla. The government was different, but the approach was the same. The thing was that it had been four days since the fire, but it was not extinguished. While cycling from the sight of fire a cyclist reporting the incident spoke to the fire brigade, to which the fire station replied, answering with a very light attitude, that only a big vehicle was available with them for that time….. the other one had gone to another fire incident in Shimla Urban region.
The fire had been lit for four days for now, but the department was negligent about its infrastructural limit and they knew that there was a smaller vehicle required to reach the place.
Similarly Compactor Trucks that violate its own policies were unreasonably bought
Another fact, that would put more evidence to the stupid choices that the government makes, is when they, without mere consultation bought compactor trucks. They gave, these trucks to the municipal corporation used for garbage collection. Purchasing these expensive compactor trucks, if was a mere boondoggle or really, if these had some importance, no one knows! Because the garbage is collected by grinding it in one place, neglecting Municipal Corporation and Pollution Control Board’s own policy of segregating waste.
Equipment of four vendors were also seized
The team of Municipal Corporation has also seized the equipment of four Vendors. Earlier in an editorial I read a conflict amidst the Congress leaders, including Vikramaditya Singh, who decided for a survey of all these vendors
were first given for the poor to submit their identity, not to know, just to make a calculation, or the government really wanted to use this data, only God knows..
After all it is a question of the sinful stomach, money has to be earned. My mind wonders if they do not know whether they will be able to lead an orderly life or will they be trapped only in the calculations of the governments..
It is clear that governments who should take decisions by sitting in silence and deliberating instead of continuous haggling and the progress over these decisions should be analysed from time to time through the media. Error is inevitable, it is caused by man, but it is useless to be obstinate, because change is the law of nature. It is useless to spend on something undesired and significant to invest on something that really requires attention. The excuse can’t be financial debt but the winning can come from appropriate expenditure.
This article is not merely for critics but the actual & recent negligence of the fire department in terms of its infrastructural limit.
