JioHotstar domain has new owners: two UAE-based kids

New Delhi: Ownership of the controversial JioHotstar.com domain has changed from a software developer to two UAE-based kids, Jainam and Jivika Jain.
The siblings are seen greeting visitors on the website’s landing page, along with informing them that they have bought the domain to “support a young software developer from Delhi”.
A letter posted on the site read, “Even though we are kids now, we believe age is just a number when it comes to spreading kindness and positivity. Our recent journey began during our summer holidays when we traveled to India from our home in Dubai for 50 unforgettable days. We had one purpose: to connect with kids from different backgrounds, share our love of learning, teach skills for studying and goal setting, and inspire them to dream big.”
They further wrote, “Through sharing our journey here, we aim to inspire others and keep the domain open for sale in the future to anyone who wishes to continue this positive mission.” In a YouTube video, Jainam and Jivika clarified that the amount paid to the techie is only a small part of the amount he had asked for.
Their purchase of JioHotstar.com comes after the unnamed techie on Friday said he was willing to sell it to Reliance Industries for one-tenth of the original asking price of ₹1 crore.
The Delhi-based app developer – which has been garnering social media attention for its unique demand to raise funds for higher education by selling JioHotstar domain following the merger deal of Reliance’s media assets and Walt Disney’s India business – said it wants to avoid a legal battle with the corporate giant and hopes a compassionate stance will be taken.
