BMW-owned Mini has unveiled an updated version of the performance-oriented Cooper JCW (John Cooper Works) hatchback. It is available in both hatchback and convertible forms. This JCW version is based on the same Cooper that was launched in India in July this year. The British brand also unveiled the 258 hp JCW Electric and the JCW Aceman at the Paris Motor Show a few weeks ago.

Mechanical Updates

The petrol-powered JCW version is powered by the same powerful 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine that produces 228 hp and 380 Nm of peak torque. It makes 27 hp more power and 80 Nm more torque than the Cooper S sold in India. All this power is sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

John Cooper Works claims that the hatchback can sprint from 0-100 kmph in 6.1 seconds, while the heavier convertible variant does it in 6.4 seconds. The hatchback has a top speed of 250 kmph, while the convertible can hit 245 kmph.

Visual updates

Cosmetic updates on the Mini John Cooper Works include JCW badging on the grille, a centrally mounted exhaust unit, a blacked-out rear diffusor, JCW-branded red brake calipers and 17-inch JCW alloy wheels. Optional 18-inch two-tone spoke alloy wheels are also available.
