Shimla, October 17: The Himachal Pradesh High Court has given an important decision in the PIL filed regarding admission in class 1. A division bench of Chief Justice Rajiv Shakdher and Satyen Vaidya issued orders to the government and schools to admit children below 6 years of age in class 1 in the current academic session.

Parents have heaved a sigh of relief with the court’s decision. With this, now the admission of a child above five years of age who is eligible to go to class 1 will not be stopped. With this decision, the way has been cleared for about 50 thousand children in the state to get admission in class 1.

Petitioner’s lawyer Suman Thakur said that the High Court has termed the notification issued by the state government on February 16, 2024 as unfair and biased. The court has said that snatching the right to education from children is a violation of their fundamental rights. The central government had issued guidelines to the Himachal government in the year 2021 for the phased implementation of the National Education Policy, 2020, however, the government did not take any action in this regard for 3 years.
