Exclusive: Mercedes EQE SUV to get cheaper by up to ₹ 20 lakh
Mercedes-Benz India will pass on this benefit to existing EQE customers, albeit in a different way.
Mercedes-Benz India launched the EQS SUV at a price of ₹ 1.41 crore, which brings it very close to the EQE EV that was launched last year at ₹ 1.39 crore (both prices ex-showroom). The catch here is that the bigger EQS is a CKD (completely knocked down unit), while the EQE was brought in as a CBU (completely built unit). To create a more significant and sensible price difference between the two models, Mercedes-Benz India will reduce the price of the EQE SUV by ₹ 20 lakh, bringing it down to around ₹ 1.19 crore. This move will make the EQE more competitive against its direct rivals.
In our conversation with Santosh Iyer, MD and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, we also learned that existing EQE customers who have bought the car at the earlier price will get a voucher worth Rs 5 lakh. This voucher can be redeemed on any new Mercedes-Benz car purchased in the next three years. This is a commendable move by the German automaker, which will help in increasing loyalty among buyers.
The EQE SUV is the third and last EV from the German automaker in India, before the launch of the EQS Maybach SUV and EQA SUV earlier this year. The EQS sits between the EQE and EQS Maybach. It gets a 122 kWh battery pack with motors on both axles, which produce a total of 544 hp and 858 Nm of peak torque. The AWD EV does 0-100 kmph in 4.7 seconds, with a claimed range of 809 km.
