FIR lodged against six students after clash at Shimla’s Sanjauli College

Shimla: An FIR has been lodged against six students involved in a clash between student union members and teachers at Sanjauli College’s Centre of Excellence. The college principal lodged a complaint at Shimla’s Sadar police station following the incident on Friday. In response, classes were suspended and the college was closed, with the police helping to clear the campus.

The dispute stemmed from an incident earlier in the week, when a girl student was allegedly molested on the college campus. On Thursday morning, SFI members approached the college’s women’s cell committee, demanding action against the accused student. The committee, led by Bharti Sharma and Purnima Thapa, assured the students that the accused student’s parents would be called to the college the next day, and appropriate action would be taken.

However, when the parents did not turn up on Friday, the SFI members again raised the issue before the women’s cell committee and sought permission to hold a protest. The committee refused to allow the protest, which further escalated the tension. The matter escalated when the SFI students approached the college principal Bharti Bhakra to stage a sit-in. The principal stopped the students from entering her office and a heated argument ensued.

According to the SFI, a teacher allegedly slapped the organisation’s district secretary during the dispute, which further worsened the situation. Police were called in to restore peace on the campus.

Principal Bharti Bhakda has said in her complaint that six students were involved in raising slogans and disrupting peace on the college campus. Acting on the complaint, ASP Shimla Navdeep Singh confirmed that a case has been registered against the accused under sections 127(2) and 352 of the Indian Penal Code and further investigation is underway.
